Parental Involvement

Ensuring that young people achieve their full potential in education is a three way process involving the Student, College and the Parents/Carers.  We value the part that our Parents play in supporting us to meet their Child’s needs.

The College planner contains all the basic information that your child needs and other things too, please take time to look through it with your child.

One important document which we ask you, your child and the mentor to sign is the Home School Agreement which can be found in the planner.

Our daily communication with parents is via the Student planner and Parents should check it daily, messages to staff can be recorded here.  We ask Parents to sign the planner weekly and to monitor that all homework recorded has been completed.  Please contact your child’s Mentor or House Leader if you have any concerns about homework set or write a note to the class teacher in the planner if you wish them to contact you.

Please note that we do expect parental support in helping your child with their work and with behaviour issues which may arise. The College has a legal right to exercise its disciplinary powers according to the following acts: Education and Inspections Act 2006; School Standards and Framework Act 1998; Education Act 2002. College staff do not have to have parental permission to impose detentions/internal exclusions during school hours and indeed outside of school hours. We still have to give 24 hours notice of any after school detention.

We also realise that we have Parents/Carers within the Community who have many skills that perhaps they would like to share with our young people. We have charitable status and raise funds and find parental help invaluable through our PTA, The Friends of Ringmer. We also value voluntary help from parents who may want to join college trips; help in our Learning Resource Centre, hear a child read or even come in and talk about your place of work or career etc to our older students.  If you would like to know more about ways that you could contribute contact the College on 01273 812220 ext.240 - Amanda French and she will put you in contact with the relevant person.
